Stuff and Things

31 December 2010

Will from Bright Bazaar has his 10 things, Beth from Hello Splendor has her Bits and Baubles, Kelly from Fabulous K has her Five on Fridays. Here’s my Stuff and Things. It’s something that my "nana" would say when you called her asked "What you doing?" and she’d answer "Oh, stuff and things." This is my list of thoughts and other happenings from my week. Enjoy. Have a fabulous weekend.

I’ve realized the things my grandmother used to decorate with that I didn’t like I now love. My current obsessions are brass and crystal.

I’ve been thinking of buying a disco ball ever since Adrienne from  Mustard Seed Collective did this post for the Moonlite Monday series, which I am reviving by the way. Starting in January.

My son wants to have some input on the blog. I don’t know what he could contribute but we’re going see if he can keep his commitment.

My close friend who happens to be a professional writer pointed out some typos in my guest post I did for Abbe at Studio|ten|25 recently. She’s an awesome writer/friend. Thanks @thawriter for keeping me on my toes.

I bought this West Elm quilted wingback headboard via craigslist. I didn’t realize that it was full-size until I got ready to use it. Next time I’ll be sure to ask questions before committing to a non-refundable cash transaction.

Second Time Around

29 December 2010

image
I’m currently gathering things for a couple of rooms I’m working on. These lamps have been stored in my garage for the past 3 years. Recently I’ve had a few twitter conversations with Mr. Goodwill Hunting. He’s loves a bargain and so do I. I am challenging him to decorate an entire room on a strict budget and using things you already own. I want to see his skills at work and I’m sure you want to see mine. Look for these in one of the rooms I’m working on.

Do you think I’m off to a good start?

Lady T

27 December 2010

March 5, 1956-December 26, 2010

I’m a lover of great music, and I’m saddened by the death of Teena Marie  or lovingly called "Lady T." I grew up listening to her music. When you heard her voice, you  knew who it was. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. You have to live life as if it’s your last day, each and every day you wake. You only have today. I leave you with one of my many favorite songs...

Chic Holiday Greetings

25 December 2010

Holiday Greetings 2010
I am so surprised this year has flown by. My Grandmother said that once you're past your twenties, time seems to fly and she was right. I've truly enjoyed all the connections that I have made this year via my blog. Go here to join the twitter family, we have tons of fun and learn new things from each other everyday. Try it you might learn something.

Square up

23 December 2010

If you have ever done sample sales, flea markets, trade shows, craft fairs even garage sales you immediately see the potential. I’ve missed many sales in the past from people with no cash and lose the sale cause there are no ATM's around or close by. Square was created by Jack Dorsey who also created that popular service we use called Twitter.
Also the credit card systems designed for shops are way too expensive for a small business. Square allows merchants to use their IPhone or IPad to process credit card payments on the spot. Unlike most credit card processing services, Square requires no merchant account, no contract, no monthly fees, no monthly minimums, and no expensive equipment or setup fees. We like that part.

Watch this short video to see exactly how it works.

It still remains to be seen how secure and usable this software is, but I´m definitely intrigued about this new little box and will continue following up on it. Let me know if you have personal experiences on Square and how it works for you.   Visit the website here.

Lunar Eclipse 2010

21 December 2010

This morning is the first time in a long time that I have watched an eclipse. I was a little girl, as matter of fact and it’s something that my father did with me and my brother. It’s my father who called to wake me up to make sure that I was watching. Thanks Daddy! ThaWriter I called you to wake you up, but no answer.

Did you stay up to watch the eclipse? Are there any kind of simple things you do with your family?

Living stylish in Oak Cliff, but I lovingly call it "the Cliffs" and even "the OC" either way Todd and Robb do it quite well. Take a look...

Side Note: I’m an Oak Cliff dweller, too :)

The Peacocks again

16 December 2010

peacocks
I found these peacocks back in February on one of my many thrift jaunts. I had them up for sale, but the lady changed her mind and decided not to purchase them, and I never tried to sale them again.

image
I emailed  Erika from Blulabel Bungalow asking her what she thought of them. She emailed me this photo a short time after. It’s from a vintage boutique Brass Razoo in Idaho. Now, I’m glad that I still have them. It would be forever before I could find them again.

Sidenote: The peacocks were purchased a two different local shops on the same day. How often does that happen?

Have you ever second guessed a decor purchase?

This wreath can not only be used for a colorful Christmas, it can be used as decor for a child’s bedroom as well.

For you modern folk, we got you covered. Take away the Christmas ornaments and it’s just a piece of art or artfully arrange a few string lights and you have a light.

Noel Recycled

08 December 2010

Christmas trees made with recycled plastic bottles. I love the idea of recycling and repurposing things and this is a great alternative.
image
In Paris, the DesignPack Gallery dedicated to art and design of packaging to inform people on the way to recycle plastic bottles. In several places of the city, they made installation of Christmas trees and other decorations only made with plastic bottles.

At the same time, they informed people on the way these products are recycled and how many of them are recycled today, what can be done with them.
 image
In addition at this public event, the Designpack Gallery also sold the cardboard structure to make one at home, collecting your own bottles.

Have you repurposed or recycled anything to create decorations for the Christmas holiday?
